Merry Christmas everyone! - Lincoln NE Family Photography

I have waited til Christmas Day to share these pictures. Why I don't know but I thought it would be fun since I didn't get my Christmas card sent out to share it here on my blog on Christmas day. I was exploring on pinterest when I stumbled across the card that was my inspiration, I got everyone ready and we took these pictures except that I wasn't ready and hadn't planned on being in the picture when I changed my mind at the last minute. I am a little insecure since I don't have any makeup on and I hadn't done my hair that day either. This is a composite that I did in photoshop (cheesy but I thought it was fun).

Thanks for looking! Merry Christmas everyone.

Failed Family Photos - Lincoln Family Photographer

So over the last month I have attempted to take my own family pictures so we could send out a Christmas card. I didn't want to do a card with just the kids or everyone but me. Our first attempt is more like a pieced together thing, each picture taken individually and then merged together using photoshop. My biggest complaint is the day I did the pictures I didn't do my hair or my makeup and though the picture isn't bad I'm a bit insecure about it, those pictures I will share a little closer to Christmas. So one cold and snowy saturday morning I got ready and when I was done I was really happy with the way I looked and decided we are going out today and doing better family pictures and we are all going to be in this one. Well it was a bust. Nobody was really happy and being the control freak that I am nobody had the patience for me to take a picture run check the angle of the poses and what not until we got it right to my satisfaction. I did what I could get and then we went for ice cream. After wards everyone was a little happier so I decided to try again at a different location and before I could get my settings the way I wanted my batteries died because of the cold. We will chalk it up to a learning experince and try again when it is warmer outside.

With all that said I did get a few keepers that I am happy with though I wish there were more smiles. Sometimes you just have to take what you can get.

Super cold photoshoot

So I am a little behind on posting these pictures. We braved 19 degree temps after a very snowy weekend to take these pictures for their Christmas card. I would say despite the cold it worked out well to have snowy portraits for Christmas.

This one was just for fun. I wanted to make it a winter wonderland since we had just had snow. I love the way it turned out.

I designed this card and thought their pictures looked really good in it.

Belated Birthday Boy - Lincoln Nebraska Family Photographer

Yea I know it's been a long time since I posted. I started with wanting to do 30 days of thankfulness and well my kids got sick and life just got crazy and I never made it back. I think I know what one of my New Years resolutions is going to be. So I have a lot of pictures to share because we had a lot going on this past month.
So first off my baby turned 3 and he is no longer a baby. Makes me so sad how fast he is growing up and changing. I used to view him as my strong silent guy, he used to just explore and was so quite it was easy to forget he was around and now he is such a gabber mouth he talks all the time (not as much as Gabby, nobody can talk that much) but he talks alot. I am so sad that I don't have a baby anymore. They grow so fast.

Here are his birthday pictures.

And the birthday celebration!

Day 30 Thankful for:

I have decided to do 30 days of thankfulness being that this month is Thanksgiving and I really want to focus more on the things that I do have versus the things I don't or wish that I did have. And of course I have to start with my family, I have the most incredible husband. He loves me despite myself and not only does he love me but he thinks that I am pretty incredible too, just knowing that makes everything worth it and I can't wait to grow old and wrinkly with him. Then there's my children, they make me laugh, they make cry, they inspire everything I do, they taught me how to love. I am so greatful for my family.

Love you guys!

AAARRRGGGG! Yo Ho Ho!

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love the costumes and I love the season that comes with Halloween. Gabby always wants to be a princess, something cute and girly which must include frills. Well I really wanted Isaac to be a pirate and I really wanted them to be matching. I usually make their costumes but really didn't want to this year, well I found Isaac's costume and fell in love with it. So I checked out all the girl pirate costumes when I stumbled upon Gabby's. I loved it immediately and thought Gabby would too but I wasn't sure, I hoped maybe I could convince her and if not I could easily return it so I bought it. To my luck she loved it when she saw it and it was settled, I got what I wanted and so did Gabby as a cute frilly, girly pirate that looks a little like a musketeer (think Barbie and the Musketeers). Loved the costumes so much I even dressed up to match which I never do.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Sneak Peak! Lincoln Nebraska Family Photographer

This has been a busy, crazy week between sick kids and everything else but I finally was able to finish M's pictures. This family was so great to work with and the kids were a dream, seriously they were so easy for their age. Thanks M for letting my take your pictures! Now I get to work on my own fall pictures.

Photoshoot! Lincoln Nebraska Family Photographer

Yes that is excitment I am feeling. I have only been in Lincoln 2 months and I had an actuall photoshoot tonight. It was so fun and reminded me that I love what I do. I should have gone to the grocery store tonight or done laundry or cleaned my kids room or a million other things that I am responsible as a wife and mother but I just couldn't wait to look at these pictures. I am so happy with what I have and really excited to share. So just two for tonight and two completely different looks both favorites from the session. Hope you like Mckenzie!

and the black and white version cause I just think it's beautiful too.

Fun at the library.

Halloween Fun

So I had this really fun idea that I just knew Gabby would love and it follows somewhat the Halloween fun of dressing up. Gabby loves to catch bugs, she is constantly asking if she can have a cup or jar or something that she can put a bug in to live. I often tell her that the bugs need to stay outside with their families or they will be super sad. She also loves fairies, so I thought I would combine the two. Two years ago I made a Tinkerbell costume for Halloween and I pulled that out and dressed Gabby up. I pulled out all my gear and had a mini photoshoot. The kids had such a fun time and both of them captured a beautiful Tinkerbell in the jar. It was so fun to see Isaac jumping up and down excitedly shouting I caught a fairy. So fun. Enjoy!

I especially love the way Isaac is looking in the jar.

Getting ready for Halloween

I know I havn't posted in a while, it's the move I tell ya. I'm still working on getting settled and getting into a routine and setting up activities for the kids and learning my way around this new city. I can't believe it is October already, it's my favorite time of year for pictures and the holiday's (love Halloween). So I will definately be taking more pictures. The colors are incredible right now and suprisingly enough I wish we had a little less sun and more overcast days. I know I'm crazy but it's part of what I like about the fall.

Well the other day I was out looking for winter clothes for the kids and found these really cute pjs. The moment I saw them I knew the picture I wanted to take. Yes it's a little cheesy but it's been one of our favorite night time songs when I tuck the kids into bed and perfect for Halloween.

Two little skeltons jumping on the bed
one fell off and broke his head!

Funny side note, they are glow in the dark and poor Isaac can't wear them at night as he gets too scared. Poor boy.

Summer adventures

In my dreams I am an incredible writer with the most interesting life to write about, in reality I'm mediocre at best and my life, well not so interesting. I'm a wife and a mother of two incredible children who are the center of my world. I spend my day doing laundry, running my daughter to and from school, doing homework, playing with my 2 year old, cleaning the kitchen, cleaning bathrooms, making beds, cleaning the kitchen, picking up toys, etc etc etc. And I have to confess I am not all that great at any of those things. But I am good at photography, I have an eye and a talent for it and I love it. Fortunately meshing time with my family and photography is super easy.

Now that my daughter is in school all day and we are pretty much settled in our new home I am finding that I have more time to edit. I finally emptied my CF card and had almost 300 pictures on there. So lots of work to do.

Here is a peak back at our summer. We spent the summer in Utah with family and had the best time with them and the kids LOVED getting to spend time with their grandparents and uncle and cousins. In July we got to go to snowbird for the day and ride the gondola to the top of snowbird. What a pleasant suprise to find there was still snow. The kids had a great time playing in the snow.

I'm back!

I know it's been forever since I have actively worked on this blog or done anything. We had some pretty major changes in our live's over the past two years that while I still worked on my photography and did an occasional shoot I completely neglected this blog. Some of the changes were my husband graduated with his masters and decided to go on and get his PhD. That change meant that we had to move from Seattle (which we came to love) to Nebraska. Huge difference. I definately miss Seattle and the incredible people I got to know and the experiences we had. But I am also looking forward to this new adventure here in Nebraska and because of Seattle I am better prepared for this experience.  I have also decided to make photography more of a focus in my life this go around hence the refocus on my blog. I will be revamping my blog over the next few months and also doing some video tutorials on how to edit (once I get the software working). I often have people ask me how to use photoshop and have been thinking on doing this for a really long time just havn't really made it a priority. I'm really excited about the new changes and focus in my life so stay tuned.

We moved into an apartment here in Nebraska and my kids are so excited cause we have a pool now. I mean what kid wouldn't be excited right.

Enjoying the amenities!

Sneak Peak Bore's

Yea I am so excited! I finally got to go out and take some pictures of our neighbors who just happen to have become some pretty good friends too. They are such a great family, Kristyn is one of those moms who I aspire to be like. It seems like everytime I talk to her I think man I have to try harder to do more, she really is a great example. And get this Thomas and I served in the same mission at the same time for about a year and never new each other, talk about a small world. They are such a beautiful family and they have really been instrumental in making our time here happy. I hope you guys like your sneak peak. I am really loving these pictures.

I have been designing some christmas cards and thought I would share one that I have been working on. Kristyn you don't have to use this one I just wanted to share an example and I thought your pictures would look great with this card.

Seriously this is why I love photography!

Birthday boy

One year ago today Isaac came into our lifes. He has been such a joy in our lifes and we are so glad we have him. I can't believe that a whole year has gone by. I really just want him to slow down and stay my baby for awhile longer, but he just isn't interested in being a baby. Pete was so excited he was going to have his birthday this week that he put him forward facing in his car seat on sunday, it made me cry that my baby is growing. Sadly I just learned today they are supposed to stay rear facing until they are 2. I'm not sure how that will go over with though so I guess I will do some research online about it.

Well here are his birthday pictures. We did a trash the cake session and it was lots of fun. I hadn't really planned on doing a whole lot but Gabby was so excited about his birthday she invited her friends to come. So we had a mini impromptu birthday gathering. Nothing special or big was so much fun. Thanks for coming and sharing this day with us, we were really sad that our family couldn't be with us. And as you can tell Isaac had a blast.
